We at WAG, Inc. are pleased that you are considering Greyhound adoption. Greyhounds can make wonderful companions for most anyone. It has been our experience that Greyhounds are gentle, sweet, sensitive, loving, affectionate, playful, and intelligent. You may very well end up with the best friend you've ever had.

To help you figure out if a Greyhound may be a good match for your family we highly recommend the following books:

• Guide to Adopting an Ex- Racing Greyhound by Carolyn Raeke

For families with young children (under 6 years) we also recommend:

We have worked in Greyhound rescue for many years and have seen many happy endings, and unfortunately we have also seen some sad ones. So, although we may seem a bit overprotective, we have only the best interest of the Greyhound in mind.   Before completing our adoption application, Please know that Greyhounds can live 10-14 years. This is a serious commitment you are making. Are you prepared to do so? Before answering please consider the following:

• lifestyle changes

• moving

• having children

• the cost of properly caring for a dog, etc.

It's very traumatic for a dog to be abandoned by its family once it has settled into its new home, and pets should NEVER be considered dispensable.  Furthermore, note that a Greyhound is not necessarily the right dog for everyone. These dogs rely on us to place them into appropriate, loving, responsible homes.
